Solar System to Scale Activity

On Sept 27th (A day) and Sept 28th (B day) we did an activity to show our solar system to scale.  In this activity we fit our entire solar system on a football field with the sun on one goal line and Neptune 100 yards away on the other goal line.

In this activity, students had to calculate, using simple proportions, where on the football field the planets Mercury, Venus, Earth, Mars, Jupiter, Saturn, and Uranus would be.  Students can find the distance of each planet from the sun  below.

After students make their calculations about where on the football field each of the planets should be, they need to enter their calculations using the form below.

Unit 1 Study Packet

Below is a link for the Unit 1 study packet.  This packet was assigned on Sept 12th and is due on Friday Sept 22nd (A day classes) or Monday Sept 25th (B day classes)  at the beginning of your class period.

In order to receive a grade for this assignment, students must receive a score of 75% or higher.  Students can submit a response for this study packet once a day until the due date.  STUDENTS WHO DO NOT RECEIVE A SCORE OF 75% ON THIS PACKET BY THE DUE DATE WILL RECEIVE A ZERO FOR THIS ASSIGNMENT.

Once a student has passed this packet with a score of 75% or higher, they may continue to take the packet to try and improve their score up until the due date.

This study packet is an open-book, open resource assignment. Students can use whatever resources they wish to answer the questions in this packet.

Tip 1:  If you have an email address, and enter your email address into the form you will receive an email with your score.

Tip 2:  If you take the packet and your score in gradebook remains a zero, that means you did not score 75% or higher and you need to try the packet again.
